Yesterday our hometown of Bellingham, Washington experienced unprecedented rainfall and flooding. Sadly our chocolate factory was impacted. The timing could not have been worse as this is our busiest time of year.
We want to say thank you to everyone who reached out to help us. It was a heartbreaking day for us. To see a place you built from the ground up under water is a helpless feeling.
But there is so much to be grateful for. So many people reached out to help with pumps and human power and just to send hugs. Our community and friends rallied around us and within hours we had pumps to start to move out the water. The outpouring was incredible.
Our hearts were full today even as we sifted through the damage. Thankfully our damage is minimal. Our machines are safe because they are on wheels, and we were able to lift our beans and finished chocolate up before the water damaged them. As they say, many hands makes light work, and we are incredibly thankful for the cleaning crews that worked all day to wash away the debris. We will be happy to once again fill the factory with the smell of roasting beans tomorrow.
So many of you have reached out asking how you can help. For those in Bellingham and the surrounding area, there are many people worse off than us. Many other small businesses were hit, many in the area around us. Now more than ever supporting local is important. If you want to support us, buy our chocolate, we would be stoked. Paul will be at the Farmers Market on Saturday in Bellingham, so stop by, say hi, and buy some chocolate.
Again, thanks to all. We felt your love big time, from near and far.
